Balestier Road is home to a plethora of historical sites from colonial-style villas to traditional shophouses and temples. With a wealth of small local businesses that have sustained for over seven decades, this thematic trail introduces you to some landmarks that have shaped Balestier Road from its early days to the recent past.

Introduction to National Heritage Board

The National Heritage Board (NHB) is the protector of the heritage of Singapore. It is their duty to tell the story of Singapore, to express the Singaporean experience and to impart our spirit of Singapore.
For the purposes of education, nation-building and cultural understanding, the mission of NHB is to preserve and celebrate the shared heritage of our diverse communities. It oversees the museums and institutions of national heritage and sets rules for heritage sites, national monuments and national collections. NHB curates heritage programmes through the national collection and offers exhibits to connect the history, current and future generations of Singaporeans.

Who Are We?

WE ARE TWO ARTS MANAGEMENT STUDENTS FROM NAFA WHO ARE CURRENTLY COMPLETING AN INDUSTRY BASED PROJECT FOR THE NATIONAL HERITAGE BOARD. WE ARE BUILDING A DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT PROTOTYPE FOR THE SG TIME TRAVELLERS PROGRAMME. DUE TO COVID-19 AND ITS MANY RESTRICTIONS WE HAVE BEEN TASKED TO DESIGN A DIGITAL HERITAGE TRAIL OF BALESTIER.

SG Time Travellers Programme

The SG Time Travellers program consists of 8 guided tours focused on the Singapore Spirit theme and values to build the respect of students for the history and heritage of Singapore. It also seeks to instill the values of national resilience, such as perseverance, trust, cohesion, in order to help foster and shape national identity. The trails will be filled with inspiring stories of major events that shaped the history of Singapore.
